THE CERVETERI NECROPOLIS, ETRUSCAN CITY OF THE DEAD
The necropolis of Cerveteri in Italy contains thousands of tombs organized in a city-like plan, with streets, small squares, and neighborhoods, as well as underground chambers carved into rock and adorned with spectacular carvings. The ‘city of the dead’ bears witness to the achievements of the enigmatic Etruscans, whose origins are continuously debated in the academic world.
