POPOL VUH: THE SACRED NARRATIVE OF MAYA CREATION
The Popol Vuh is generally considered to be the single most important piece of Mesoamerican literature. The legendary Quiché book of creation begins with the work of the Maya gods to create humanity, and ends with a detailed account of the Maya lords, who ruled by divine right, and founded the Quiché kingdom in the Guatemalan highlands.
